Dr. Wakseyoum Idosa President of the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY) has called upon the EECMY Youth to play active role in efforts to protect the teaching and doctrine of the Church from false and unbiblical teachings such as social gospel and same sex marriage. The president made the call in his opening remark to the participants of one-day vision casting and brainstorming session, organized by EECMY Children and Youth Coordination Division (CYCD) and held at Gudina Tumissa Multi Purpose Training Center (GTMTC) in Addis Ababa, on June 4, 2010. The president emphasized the urgency for a deep-rooted teaching on the identity, teaching and doctrine of the Church.

The teaching in the Church, the president went on saying should be planned, prepared and provided in a way that it would enable every member of the Church to guard the Church from the intruding unbiblical teaching of any sort. The president on several meetings, workshops and consultations repeatedly stressed the urgency for a deep-rooted teaching in the Church.

The session is the first of its kind, brought together Children and Youth representatives of the synods of the Church to discuss, comment and contribute to the draft document of EECMY-CYCD vision which is prepared by the Children and Youth work Coordination Division and presented to the session. Accordingly, the participants discussed the vision with enthusiasm and recommended that the vision is enriched by addition session that will include professionals in the subject matter before submission to decision-making body for action.

Speaking at this session, the President also noted that the session is timely that coincided with the moment at which the church is in active process of going out with the Gospel, beyond the boundary of Ethiopia to different parts of the world. The youth should be the president added a front-runner in the efforts that the EECMY- International Mission Society (IMS) is exerting to reach out the unreached neighboring countries of Ethiopia and beyond with the Gospel.

The EECMY is one of the fast growing evangelical member Churches of the Lutheran World Federation that embraces potential membership of Children and youth. It is estimated that over 75% of EECMY members are below the age of 50; large portion of which are youth and children; the positive trend indicating the continuity of the Church in the years ahead.

The President appreciated the EECMY-CYCD for the effort it has made to prepare the vision document, which was presented by Ato Lellissa Daniel, Coordinator of EECMY-CYCD. The president underlined that the implementation of the well worked and presented vision document requires firm commitment and hard work of the EECMY-CYCD and the church structures at all levels including congregations, parishes, Work Areas, Synods and Church leadership.

The EECMY is one of the fast growing evangelical member Churches of the Lutheran World Federation that embraces potential membership of Children and youth.
